Christmas Banqi Update
The Wikipedia article on Banqi is fraught with controversy (documenting many variants of the game and different translations of piece names), so I’ve written my own brief page about Banqi. My page includes instructions for the variant I play with my friends, as well as the current version of my custom board (which I intend to always publish there).
For convenience (and because images are prettier than words), here is version 6 of my custom Banqi board:

Woody, I thought I’d share a couple of Banqi related links with you here.
First, I’ve found a place to buy the small Chinese chess sets:
http://www.chesshouse.com/basic_chinese_chess_set_p/s1162p.htm
I ordered two of them this week and I just got them today.
And second, I have discovered a version of Banqi to play on Android devices:

As far as I can tell the rules are the same (though the hopping cannon is optional.) I only played the computer once and beat it, so I don’t know how ‘smart’ it is, but it does have online play (if anyone else is playing…)
Happy BanQiing!
